Rapal® ZA series (toughened Zirconia)

A high-performance composite that synergizes the hardness of alumina with the fracture toughness of zirconia, significantly enhancing structural reliability and impact resistance.

Specifications and Description

Rapal® ZA represents Rauschert’s advanced composite technology, utilizing a uniform dispersion of zirconia (ZrO2) particles within an alumina (Al2O3) matrix. Engineered with Cerium (Ce) and Yttrium (Y) dopants, this material maximizes the strength and resilience of the zirconia phase, combining the benefits of both oxides for demanding industrial applications.

1. Rapal® 700 ZA

  • Cost-Effective Performance: Delivers significantly higher toughness than pure alumina while offering a more favorable price-performance ratio compared to pure zirconia.
  • High Hardness: Effectively retains the extreme hardness characteristic of high-purity alumina (Vickers hardness > 1600 HV).

2. Rapal® 800 ZA
  • Enhanced Fracture Resistance: Features an increased flexural strength of approximately 800 MPa, designed to withstand impact loads.
  • Superior Wear Resistance: Engineered for high-speed friction environments, ensuring extremely low wear rates and extended service life.

3. Rapal® 1000 ZA
  • Premium Toughened Grade: Developed through precise control of zirconia content and grain size distribution to match the mechanical strength of pure zirconia.
  • Extreme Strength & Toughness: Boasts flexural strength exceeding 1000 MPa and fracture toughness far surpassing conventional ceramics.
  • Dynamic Stress Resilience: One of the few high-performance ceramic grades capable of handling high dynamic loads and impact.
  • Optimized Thermophysics: Provides superior thermal conductivity for enhanced heat dissipation and higher rigidity (Elastic Modulus) compared to pure zirconia.
